Saturday was the first of the three hour tour races. The Manzanita Margarita or Beer on the water, as it turned out. The start went off without a hitch. Ten boats in participatation, three PHRF and seven Windseekers. Romeo Charlie trailed the fleet out to Dalco Passage where all looked great for a successful race. The Race Committee proceeded to Thea Foss waterway to set the finish line.
As the fleet neared Manzanita it hit, the great wind hole. Boats struggled to round with Special Purpose, Red Splash and Blue Jay leading the way. Time marched on, as the limit approached Cyndi and I disembarked from the Waterway to call time. Time expired with out a finish, alas Dulcinea was challenging Special Purpose for a win. Red Splash and Blue Jay were looking good. Welcome to Chinook a Portland Beneteau 11.5 skippered by Tod Bassham and crew.... at least the tacks are are a bit longer than on "the ditch". Next up is the Ruston Classic...yes ... restaurant row.
